Please Add (easy one)

I made a small area on the bottom of the russl page on wikis for links for each group's wiki.

I'd just like to ask each group to post a link to their respective homework wiki

thank you

Proposed Grading Change Vote 7.27

Please head to the scils598announce blog and vote (yes/no) on a change in the grading levels for class.

To acknowledge the level of work that I'm having you do on homework projects, I'm proposing changing:

20pts participation
40pts homework projects
40pts final project

to

20pts participation
60pts homework projects
20pts final project

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments

Did I say?

That descriptions/notes in del.icio.us didn't matter all that much?

Shame on me.

Add some descriptions/notes to your bookmarks to see what happens

  • Add them while you're making the bookmark
  • Edit your bookmark to add them
Time to go take a nap and get off this computer gizmo for awhile

Having Fun Yet?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm having a lot of fun with this class...it's a HUGE amount of work, but as I sit here

  • listening to last.fm (and selecting/rejecting songs as they play)
  • reviewing email and grading in my online course management shell
  • checking posts via bloglines
  • blogging a few announcements
  • tweaking badge content
  • updating the class wiki
  • researching Flash based music players via del.icio.us
I'm feeling pretty psyched. (yes, that's a whole lot of tabs)

If you have any comments or suggestions for the class, you can always:
  • email me
  • add some comments to this blog post (or your blog)
  • add/edit material on russl
  • or im me your suggestions
Remember this is a participatory class, I know I'm "leading" it, but the more insight I can get to make this more "immersive" the better

You'll notice above I didn't say talk to me or call me...I can't can't go back and review a discussion...I can (and will) go back and review my notes, comments, posts, segments of im transactions, emails, etc.

Facilitating Online

As I was prepping some material on del.icio.us this morning I ran across this page (del.icio.us is great for these "discoveries"):

http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Facilitating_Online

It's not 100% "done" yet, but it has a lot of interesting information, especially regarding the facilitation of online learning. As a Librarian creating online community and social communication channels via the tools we've been using in class, I think there's some great information to be culled from here.

Additionally, I'd love to hear from the online students in the room on what they think about the section on Responsibilities in Practice.

Please feel free to comment away or respond in your blogs :-)

Image Hosting Sites and Services

Sharon C. just added a page called "Image Sites and Services" to the Images page of russl. In class we'll be focusing on Flickr and Flickr tool sites, so if you have an image hosting/service site other than Flickr that's a favorite for you please feel free to add it to the page Sharon created.

Updates slow to Feedburner?

Are you creating new posts in your blog, but not having Feedburner update (it's suppose to check every 1/2 hour minimum)?

First, if you want to see if your feed is updating on feedburner just click on the icon on your blog, this will take you to your feed, scroll down the page and you'll see if your feed contains your latest post.

If so, then you might want to review/try the following:
In blogger, go to Settings - Site Feed and make sure that you have your feedburner address in the Post Feed Redirect URL box
In blogger, go to Settings - Publishing and make sure that you have Send Pings set to yes

You might also want to try using Ping-o-Matic to let feedburner know to update

To make sure that those services that use your feed get updated as quickly as possible:
In feedburner, click on Ping Shot and activate the service

Subscribing to your Podcast

One thing I forgot to mention in class...

The feedburner feed is what makes the podcast "work" so when you go to subscribe to your feed or anyone else's (especially in iTunes), make sure you're using the feed that has feedburner.com in the address.

librarysteve@yahoo.com if you have questions

Steve

bloglines = slow

bloglines is suppose to update feeds every hour...they seem mighty slow to me.

Just putting out an announcement in case anyone thinks it's them...it's not you...it's the reader (and I gotta say googlereader ain't too quick either)

Pimpin' those blogs

Just took a break from the joy of prepping the Podcast class (more stories Thursday) and checked out your blogs...I'm glad to see that a lot of you are adding widgets, custom headers and all kinds of stuff to your blogs.

It's not required, but it's nice to see.
