Hello all,
Just wanted to say "nice job" on all the project work in the IM section of class. I hope you all feel that you have a little more experience and perspective with IM and IM in the Library setting.
One thing about IM that I know was probably a bit "painful" to a lot of you is the idea of a "synchronous" communication tool, especially as I have a few of you in "other" time zones. You'll be happy to know that IM is pretty much the only synchronous tool that we'll use in class. (Don't forget as well that you can IM someone and they "should" get your message the next time they log in). We'll still be depending on each other in future classes, but you should be able to do most of your work in your own time frame.
I also want to acknowledge the "joy" of editing in the wiki. Wiki editing (all services I've used) is a bit like editing in Word. Once you conform to the "rules" of the system it all works great, but you have to figure out what those rules are. One rule I'll share with you is that most wiki software doesn't seem to like copy/paste from Word...you can do it, but expect some weird formatting issues. My advice if you don't want to type directly in the wiki would be to use Notepad or TextEdit, then copy/paste and format in the Wiki...still not perfect, but better.
Hope you're all enjoying the class and learning some new skills and new context, if you have any questions feel free to email or message me.
