"Final Announcement"
Hello all,
1. All your Finals are graded and I put some comments in the eCompanion gradebook
2. Your grades have all been submitted to the Registrar.
3. I requested a Course Evaluation for eCompanion so you should be prompted to complete an evaluation next time you log in (knock wood). If this doesn't work today, please try again tomorrow, I'd love more feedback on this class, especially feedback that the higher ups will see.
4. On the RUSSL Page for the Final (now added to the RUSSL sidebar), I put in a table for you all to put a URL to show off your final. Please do so, every project was great and there were many different approaches/tools used.
5. Lastly, a final thank you for your patience and perseverance
Steve

Classroom Change
On Tuesday 8.14, we'll have class up in the Faculty Lounge rather than in 119.
This way we can stretch out and have some food w/out worrying about those computers.
See you then

Interesting iPod...
Orchard Valley Middle School: Pod People. Money will be used to purchase Video iPods and voice recorders for use in a technology program that utilizes iPods to enhance literacy skills in English language learners (ESL students).

No details on what they're going to exactly do, but I just found it interesting that a small grant is funding it.

If you need to meet with me please let me know and we'll set something up.

Social Networks and danah boyd
In Barbara W's blog she posted about some of her experience with Social Networks
She also links to danah boyd, who does some VERY interesting research on Social Networks, Identity, Youth Engagement, etc.
One of the biggest "buzz" items that she's written is:
Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace
In Barbara's post she wrote:
"my ... reason for this whole blog post is to recommend that you check out her website, blog and presentations."My reason for this post is to encourage you all to do the same (not required but very very very very interesting)

vlogging mystery #1 solved (YouTube)
Ok,
One mystery unraveled.
When you embed a YouTube video into a blog post make sure to add the url(link) to the video on YouTube, BUT make sure the link that goes to YouTube is the "horrible" http://xxx.xxx.xxx , you can't change the label - if you do it doesn't show the video in bloglines.
Example:
http://profgtest.blogspot.com/2007/08/youtube-final-test.html
Remember iTunes still won't care, but at least you'll get the two main "text" based blog reader services.
There has to be an article in this somewhere :-)
Let me know if you have any questions, Steve

Headphones for Thursday 8.2
Before I forget,
Please bring your headphones to class on Thursday.
We'll be using a program called Windows Movie Maker to create a video and one of the things we'll be doing is bringing in an audio track (that I'll provide).
In order to hear it, you'll need headphones
No need to bring the mic
Sending this out via email as well, just in case
Steve
